Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC

I was in DC this last week and worked my brain all day and my feet all night.  These are two five shot HDR photos taken with in a few minutes of each other as I walked around the tidal basin at sunset.  I finally got brave and carried my tripod on to the plane.  I don't know why I was worried about it, it was no big deal.  I did have to check a bag however as the tripod would make three carry ons.

Columbia River at Sunset

OK, so I one set pictures on my last trip to Portland.  Here it is a sunset looking out the restaurant window across the Columbia at sunset.  3 shot HDR taken with my camera mounted on my table top tripod.

Colorado National Monument

I spent last week in Grand Junction, Colorado.  While I was there I took some time and went up to the Colorado National Monument again.  I got up there just about sunset and took several panoramas from three difference locations in the monument.  I think this is my favorite.  It's an HDR made from 40 photos.  There's eight frames x five exposures for each frame.  I think I've decided that manual exposure works better than auto - the auto exposure tends to produce some vignetting when stitching photos with significant variations in light.  It is notable in this picture.  This picture is 438Mb before I compressed it for the internet.  The pan is about 150 degrees.

Sunset in Island Park

I don't think I've ever posted the sunset panorama I did a couple of years ago.  This was one of my early attempts at HDR and panoramic photography.  I was pretty happy with the result.  I shot it with my camera set up to shoot manually.  I picked what I thought was an area of average exposure and then shot the whole panorama bracketed on that exposure.

A New Photomatix

I recently upgraded my HDR software to Photomatix v.4.  Some major enhancements!  Can you tell?  I took these pictures at sunset in downtown Ogden about a year ago and HDRed the top one then in v.3.  The lower one I just HDRed in v.4.  BTW there was no retouching of either photo in Photoshop.  If you've got Photomatix it's worth upgrading (it a free upgrade from v3 to v4).

Henry's Fork Sunset

I had a great picture that was under exposed.  I decided to try to make a three shot HDR out of it.  I took the original and made a +2 and -2 stop exposure in raw.  Ran the three photos through Photomatix and presto - a reasonably good shot.  Man I love digital photography!

Sunset from Heaven

I was looking through some old photos and found this one. I don't remember where I took it or when, but I was obviously flying, and I think it's pretty cool.
