Mount Sawtelle at Night

Mount Sawtelle is visible out the window of the kitchen at the cabin, maybe that's why I'm fascinated with it.  I wanted to try a couple of dusky shots - here they are:

This one is six seconds at f38 ISO 400 55mm with my 18-55mm lens.

This one you can begin to see the big dipper in the upper right corner of the frame, it is ten seconds f8 2EV (two stops over exposed) ISO 800 18mm with my 18-55mm lens.

Wild Flower

Again with flowers from Island Park this summer.  This one is one of my favorites from this summer.  shutter: 125, f13 ISO 400.  Taken with my 50mm macro lens.

A Couple More Flower Pics

Here's a couple of different pictures from the same group of flowers.  I don't know what is was about the flowers this year.  It's been really dry so I didn't expect much, but they were pretty amazing.  Both pictures were taken at 1/30th of a second f13 ISO 400.  I used my 50mm macro lens for both.

Flowers - Compaired

July
August

July
August

When I was at the cabin about a month ago for a little work party I took time to get pictures of a few flowers.  When I went back a week ago I found those same flowers looked a bit different.  I thought I'd post the shots so you could compare.

Moose in Henry's Fork part II

I thought I'd share a couple more moose pictures.  These were taken the day before the picture I posted most recently.   They started on the side of the river I was on, but by the time I got my camera out and ready they were almost all the way across the river.  That'a also why these pictures are backside shots.  1/60th at f8 ISO 100 300mm

Moose at Island Park

Well I got away from my panorama/HDR fascination and broke out the 50-300mm zoom this week in Island Park, Idaho.  There were a couple of moose that showed up a couple evenings in a row.  This was shot the second evening just about a half and hour before sunset.  Shot at 1/90th, f8, ISO 400, 300 mm.

Natures Fireworks

I probably should have shared this earlier.  This is another one of the flowers I grabbed a picture of at the cabin a couple of weeks ago.  It reminds me of some of the fireworks I've seen.  This picture was taken with my 50mm macro lens, 1/125, f13, ISO 400

More Wild Flowers

Here's a nice grouping of flowers taken the same morning as my previous post.  This was also taken with my 50mm macro lens.  1/90th second f/13 ISO 400

Wild Flowers in Island Park

Wild flowers are always easy to photograph in Island Park and July seems to be a great month to do it.  I spent last week end working with the family to refinish the exterior of the cabin.  It rained way to much and actually hindered the work, but then its nice to take pictures of flowers with fresh rain still on them.  This one taken at 1/45th second f13 ISO 400 with my 50mm macro lens

The Alamo

My visit to San Antonio was pretty educational.  Visiting the Alamo was pretty interesting.  A movie about the Alamo was one of my favorite when I was a kid.  This was also my first time to Texas.  This is a single shot handheld of the history library which is probably the newest addition to the Alamo site - built about 20 years ago.  I thought it was very well done.  18mm 1/10th sec f11 ISO 200

Newport Beach

Spent some time on the west coast and just could help taking pictures walking along the beach.  I took lots of this kind of shots, just held the shutter release down and let the exposure pile up.  Maybe I should put some together in an avi file.

WW II

Because the fourth of July is almost here I thought I post a couple of pictures of the World War II memorial in DC taken when I was there in May.  This memorial was new to me and I've got so say it's pretty impressive.  These are five shot HDRs.  The sun is pretty much set when these were taken and the exposure times were pretty long .5 - .7 seconds for the short exposure and eight - ten seconds for the long exposures f8 at 400 ISO

Korean War Memorial

There were several new (to me) memorials in Washington DC when we visited.  These are five shot HDRs taken early in the evening on our tour of memorials one evening on our visit to DC.  I was drawn to this memorial for some reason.  It's pretty cool.

USS Midway

Want to spend an afternoon or more learning about and gaining an appreciation for our sailors?  Take the tour of the Midway.  I thought it was awesome.  I went mainly to take pictures of airplanes.  I think I know where my grandson gets his fascination with airplanes.  Hand held (obviously) 1/4 sec f8 ISO 200

Butterfly at the Museum

Spent a very little time at a couple of Smithsonian museums.  I'm guessing but this butterfly looks like it's got a broken wing tip.  The picture was taken at the Natural Science Museum and I think its a great example of depth of field.  260mm (50-300mm zoom) 1/180 f5.6 ISO 400.

Memorial Day Weekend Island Park

Well my Memorial Day weekend was different mostly because I caught a nasty cold.  So here's a picture of what we dealt with this weekend.  Needless to say I didn't get very may pictures taken.  1/250 f4 ISO 200

National Botanical Garden

I had a chance last week to spend an evening with "public" architects from around the country in the National Botanical Garden.  "Public" architects work for public entities including federal, state or local governments.  Anyway, I have to admire the vision of our founding fathers.  Not just for the founding of this country, but the capitol and all the awesome things that make up the city and all.  The National Botanical Garden is the brain child of George Washington.  I might mention that I had the opportunity to sit in a couple of session with the Architect of the Capitol and I met him at this function.  That we pretty cool in my book.  This shot was taken at 44mm (18-55mm zoom) 1/250th f9.5 ISO 200.

Washington DC

Well I've spent all kinds of time processing photos I took in DC last week.  If you would like, check out what I've posted on Google+ or Flickr.  I'll post a few here also.  No collection of DC photos would be complete with out a shot of the obelisk called the Washington Monument.  This is a five shot HDR taken mounted on a tripod with lots of traffic moving across the street in the foreground.

Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC

I was in DC this last week and worked my brain all day and my feet all night.  These are two five shot HDR photos taken with in a few minutes of each other as I walked around the tidal basin at sunset.  I finally got brave and carried my tripod on to the plane.  I don't know why I was worried about it, it was no big deal.  I did have to check a bag however as the tripod would make three carry ons.

San Antonio

I went to San Antonio last week for a class.  Class got out early one day so we had a chance to run over and take a few pictures of the Alamo and read the history of the area - pretty fascinating.  We also did the river walk a couple of times.

Pelicans on Henry's

Alright it's been way to long and I hate to admit that I've been a bit busy.  This picture was taken in Island Park on Henry's Fork as we hiked down to Coffee Pot Rapids.  This was shot at 300mm 400iso 180th of a second and f11.  Tweaked just slightly in Lightroom.

Columbia River at Sunset

OK, so I one set pictures on my last trip to Portland.  Here it is a sunset looking out the restaurant window across the Columbia at sunset.  3 shot HDR taken with my camera mounted on my table top tripod.

Spring has sprung

It's been a while since I posted so I decided I had to do something so I went out in the front yard and took a couple of pictures of the flower plumb.  I didn't do any editing to this at all.  I took them with my 50 mm macro lens 1/90 second at f11 ISO 200

Old Idaho State Pen

While visiting Boise this last week end I decided to take a few pictures of the old Idaho State Pen.  Back in the mid 90s my Architecture firm did a structural stabilization of parts of this structure which was put into service in 1872.  I put a bunch of pics up on Google+ if your interested.  This is a 20 shot HDR Pan.

F22 Heavy Maintainance

I took pictures of an F22 at our F22 Heavy Maintenance project completed recently at Hill AFB.  I was a little concerned about publishing them, but the Army Corps published them today so I guess it's alright.  This is a 10 shot HDR panorama.

Multnomah Falls, Oregon part II

Here's the shot that every one that goes to Multmonah Falls takes.  This one with a bit of an HDR spin on it.
