Sacramento Church

Weather in Sacramento was miserable last week, but it got nice just in time to leave town.  So here's the first church build in Sacramento in the nice California sun.

Sacramento's First Church

After                                                                                                 Before

In case you haven't noticed I've been traveling a bit lately.  Good news is I'm home for a while.  I took some quick shots of the first church built in Sacramento while I was there this week.  I thought I'd share where these started and where they ended up after a trip through Photomatics and Photoshop.  The exposure times on these photos was between .5 and 1 second and was handheld so I apologize that there not great shots.  I turned the ISO up to 400 so they are a little noisy too.  One of these days I've got to figure out how to travel with my tripod.  The f stop on all of these was f8.  If I'd had my tripod I'd have gone to f22 or f36 to make sure I was in focus for the entire depth of the photo and left my ISO at 100.  That means these exposures would have been several seconds and significantly better.

Squeal New Orleans

We got to the Maple Leaf a little early and hadn't had any dinner so we walked down the street and found a nice little Barbeque place called Squeal.  We all had a delicious half rack of ribs which none of us finished.  ISO 400 1/4 sec at f5.6 HDR in Photoshop.  By the way this is my own Photoshop settings so if you try to do this with the standard Photoshop HDR it probably won't work or look like this.

Jazz - New Orleans Style Part II

Just for fun here's a shot at ISO 200, for 6 seconds at f8.  This was hand held again, yes it's true I am a rock, I am an island - OK not really.  This is kind of a fun overcooked HDR (not done in Photomatics but all done in Photoshop)

Maple Leaf - New Orleans

Here's the little place we went to out in the sticks, but still someplace in NO.  The journey was kind of fun as well.  We rode a street car out there.  The oldest and longest continuously running railroad in North America.  It just occurred to me that I didn't get a picture of that - dang!  I do have pictures I took from the train of the buildings along the route - that made for some interesting photos.  Hand held ISO 1600, 0.3 sec at f8, again I used Photoshop to get rid of most of the noise.

Jazz - New Orleans Style

I spent last week in New Orleans and took a chance to go check out same jazz.  It's was a great show, kind of different from standard NO jazz that you might expect.  These guys where really fun.  This is hand held no flash.  ISO is 800, exposure is .5 sec at f8.  I used Photoshop to help remove the noise from the photo.

Shoshone Falls

One of my favorite places is Shoshone Falls on the Snake River near Twin Falls, Idaho.  On our way home from Boise last week end we stopped.  This time of year the water is roaring over the falls.  This picture is made up of 50 pictures.  I HDRed together 10 pan shots, each HDR is made up of 5 shots.  I took the houses and etc in the background out of the picture.   I don't know why anyone would let people build houses on the precipice of the falls, but I guess it's a free country.  As a side bar my computer has nine gigabytes of RAM.  I used 7.5 while processing the stitching in Photoshop.  The picture is a 325Mb tiff.  I've reduced it to a 145Kb jpg for your viewing pleasure.
